Aim
The primary aim of this flourishing Society is to celebrate
and remember the achievements and sacrifices of those who
were stationed at Royal Air Force Martlesham Heath (to the
east of Ipswich, Suffolk), from its formation in 1917, to
its closure as an operational airfield in 1963.
The Martlesham Heath Aviation Society strives to keep the
History of the Station alive, with many of its 250+ members
(including many Americans) all having some family connection
with the base's operations.
Reunions
Regular reunions are held, which
are attended both by R.A.F. and U.S. 8th Air Force veterans
who served at the RAF Martlesham Heath.
Trips
Regular Trips and excursions are organised through the year
by our Tour Organiser Russell Bailey.
Meetings
The Society has monthly meetings, which are held in the Martlesham
Heath Community Centre, Felixstowe Road. They start
at 7:30 and usually take the form of a talk (usually illustrated)
from a Celebrity Speaker, about some aspect of Aviation History,
be it local, National or International.
New members will be welcomed at the meetings
