Message: I was born at the old Officers Mess in 1973. My family moved there in 1968 (I think), and named it Jaycee Cottages. We left in 1987.
When working at BT, I saw when the buildings where demolished; a sad day for me.
I used to walk past the control tower to get to school. Us kids were convinced the place was haunted, with stories going around about a Serviceman who was shot while at work there. I don't know if it is true, anyone know?
I have a small copper airplane which I found on the Heath before it was all developed, I was told the Servicemen used to make them out of old coins.
I have fond memories of living at Martlesham and go there every now and then with my son, there's always stories to be told!

Message: Your website brought back happy memories of my short spell at Martlesham Heath after I finished my RAF Apprenticeship in July 1952. I was there when the Ashton arrived. It looked amazing then to a 19yr old. Also, there was a Lincoln with a jet engine in the nose. A test bed I suppose. I remember doing night shifts in the battery charging room which was allegedly haunted!! I left in Dec 52 for aircrew training as a Signaller. Happy days.

Message: I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters in 1974 through 1979. I used to live near the air field, Edward Fitzgerald Court in Woodbridge. I was in attendance when John Parks flew his 1933(?)DeHavilland Leopard Moth out of Martlesham Heath. He was one of the first to fly DeHaviland fighters into this air field and the last to fly out. I knew him, his wife and daughter, Natasha Payton. Wonderful memories of Wonderful people.
Somewhere in all the buildings that once was an active air base is a pump house with the painting of a "Monk"... I wonder is it still standing...
