MHAS was contacted recently by Peter Wyllie who commented:-
I was fortunate enough to fly from Martlesham Heath from August 25th 1958 till the 4th September as an Acting Pilot Officer. I was flying Chipmunks and had my first flight in a Meteor 7 No. 880 on the 27th August. A fascinating flight, I was asked where I would like to go. As I was a Civil Engineering Undergraduate I was interested in the construction of the M1, which was being undertaken at the time. So I said ”The M1”.Sqd. Ldr. Rees, my pilot said “OK”. So off we went and did the length of the M1 from London to Birmingham and back to Martlesham in 50 minutes flying time! A great experience.
Martlesham has certainly left fond memories especially as Suffolk is my home county.
I have tried to reply but am unable for some reason. Peter - if you read this we would like to make contact can you please call me on 07710309966 - thanks. Paul
