The Last of the 356th Fighter Group – Unless you know different…
Ed Nebinger was a Second Lieutenant at 19 years of age. He served as a fighter pilot with the 360th Fighter Squadron Group, flying missions from Martlesham Heath, England. Along with other officers he lived in Playford Hall which they called ‘The Castle’ and it was while living there he made friends with ‘The ABC’s’, pilots Richard Andrio, Ray Burwell and Bill Crump. Ed has written a memoir of their time as pilots, as young men meeting new people in wartime Britain and the losses they endured. Andrio was the only one of the four not to survive the war – he was killed flying a mission on Christmas day 1944.
After the war Ed served in the USAF for 23 years and retired as a Lt Colonel. He was stationed in the Philippines during the Korean conflict and flew Mustangs in Korea.
After retiring from the US Air Force Ed since received an MBA from the University of Maryland. In 1973 he founded 'Forecast International Inc' which provides market intelligence forecasting, proprietary research and consulting services for the worldwide Aerospace, Defence and Electronic and Power Systems industries.
He and Marge now live on Hutchinson Island Florida. Ed at 99 years of age still maintains a great interest in the Martlesham Heath Aviation Society where he is an Honorary Member.
